Welcome to Fermilab Natural Areas

Fermilab Natural Areas is a 501(c)(3)not-for-profit corporation. We are an environmental science program operating exclusively within the boundaries of Fermilab, a U.S. Department of Energy science laboratory.

The mission of Fermilab Natural Areas is to restore, manage, and conserve Fermilab's natural areas in support of our science mission, and to encourage Fermilab's neighbors to experience and enjoy Fermilab's natural beauty.

Our Vision

We envision a future:

where Fermilab’s open spaces are actively managed and improved according to the ecosystem management philosophy;
where Fermilab is recognized as a center for the creation of natural areas within the region;
where environmental research is actively carried out, and
where the people of the surrounding communities consider the enjoyment of our open spaces to be a valuable contributor to a high quality of life.
